Are you passionate about supporting people in a compassionate, non-judgmental way? Abortion Talk is looking for dedicated, empathetic individuals to join our team as Talkline Volunteers! This remote volunteer opportunity is a chance to make a real difference, helping us provide support and destigmatize abortion experiences across the UK. We’re seeking volunteers who share Abortion Talk’s pro-choice values, demonstrate strong empathy, and are committed to respectful, inclusive practices. If you’re a compassionate listener and feel motivated to support our mission, this role could be the perfect fit.
As a Talkline Volunteer, you’ll:
- Develop active listening and empathetic communication skills while learning to navigate complex, meaningful conversations.
- Gain in-depth knowledge on abortion care, access, aftercare, and counselling.
- Be part of a movement to destigmatize abortion by fostering understanding and openness.
- With webchat support launching in 2025, our volunteers can choose to provide support over the phone, through webchat, or both.
Volunteers are the heart of Abortion Talk. We’re committed to making your experience both impactful and fulfilling, with ongoing training, monthly “talkshop” meetings, and a supportive volunteer network. In return, we ask for just one or two 3-hour shifts each month and are flexible with availability.
Before applying you MUST be available for the following dates to complete mandatory training:

Training will be three half-day sessions (10am – 2pm) on consecutive Saturdays and will take place over Zoom. You will need to be available on each of the following dates:

Complete additional safeguarding training if you do not already have in-date Safeguarding Adults and Children certifications (Level 1 minimum).

Webchat volunteers will attend a further training session during February to become familiar with the software provided.

Vacancies
Evaluation Consultant
Abortion Talk is seeking proposals for a funded evaluation project to measure and enhance the impact of our work in tackling abortion stigma. Please see the full brief here.
Project Goals
We need an evaluation to:

Measure how workshops influence participants’ views and practices.

Assess the impact of our Talkline, short- and long-term.

Compare outcomes between webchat and phone support.
Deliverables
Key outputs include:

A report to inform strategy and funding.
Fee and Application
The budget is up to £10,000. Submit your proposal with methodology, timelines, outputs, and fee. Include your CV, two references, subcontractor details (if any), and a brief note on what being pro-choice means to you.
